If you already know the basic story, skip a paragraph.
On July 24th 2006, Lucie Laurier was on MusiquePlus, promoting her new movie. Her bra strap falls; a breast jcomes out for a breath of fresh air. No one noticed but the cameraperson, who zooms in on the nipple without a shred of shame. Lucie notices the exposed flesh, tucks the breast in and redoes the interview. Someone put this footage on YouTube. One week later and after the clip had been seen 22 000 times, it was taken off the site.
First of all, it’s not the first time we see this lady’s breasts, online and on the silver screen. (Check out Stiletto Dance for example)
So why all the hoopla? Because interest isn’t slowing down.
A blog with almost no readership became the #1 in Quebec, because it offers a QuickTime version of the footage (we’ll spare you the technicalities, but that copy does not come from YouTube)
So, it seems we’re aroused by the interdiction, by the zoom-in...you had to have the balls to do it. By the act of defiance that consists in showing it. By the conservative reaction of both parties…
Democratic fire is also accessible to hoodlums. We like it, because it reminds us that we (the user/consumer) have the last word in this new world order.
